Red Orach

Red Orach AKA Mountain Spinach is actually a wild food. It has been somewhat domesticated and seed can be purchased from seed distributers like West Coast Seeds. The great thing about red orach is that although it is not a perennial (plant that returns each year), it does re-seed a lot and fits into the category of annuals that are considered foods you plant once & eat forever. It is significantly high in iron and b vitamins and likely high in antioxidant due to its rich deep purple coloring. It is good to eat cooked or raw and can be dried or frozen for preservation. Especially good in stews and stir fry’s.
