Garden Therapy

There are many benefits to growing food aside from the nutritional benefits. Getting your hands dirty is a great way to fight off feelings of depression. It simply gets you out of the house and moving. After a long winter of staying warm inside, our bodies our ready to soak up the sunshine and vitamin D. Physical exercise makes your body create endorphins which help ease our pain and give a little mood booster.

Some studies even show that dirt is a natural anti-depressant! “Mycobacterium vaccae is the substance under study and has indeed been found to mirror the effect on neurons that drugs like Prozac provide. The bacterium is found in soil and may stimulate serotonin production, which makes you relaxed and happier.”
