Worms are some of my Best Friends

It’s that time of year where we have an abundance of organic matter in our kitchens and quite often excess food waste to deal with. To keep our landfills smaller and to help grow our garden, I keep all my veggie and fruit scraps, coffee grinds, tea bags and bones to bury in our garden. These kitchen scraps feed the worms who are your best friends in the garden. They eat help decompose organic matter by eating it and excrete what its fresh new soil for us.

Some people buy red wrigglers and keep a box in the kitchen to feed. It’s a great idea and you can probably find some locally anywhere just ask around. Personally, I just put my compost right under trees to feed them or dig it into pits in the garden and let the indigenous worms do their thing.

So next time you see a worm, don’t get squirmish. Just give our little friend a hand and bury them somewhere else. Also if you’ve ever heard you can cut a worm in half and it will survive, that is not true at all! If you cut a worm in half, it will Die!
